Automotive industry as a whole is undergoing an unprecedent amount of digital transformation and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. is at the forefront with our Snapdragon® Digital Chassis™ Solution for our automotive partners. Advent of new E/E architectures by Automakers, warrants adoption of application frameworks aligned with broader goal of Software Defined Vehicles of future. Connectivity platform is integral part of Snapdragon Digital Chassis and enables multitude of use cases and services in the digital cockpit and ADAS domain. Connectivity also is closely tied with enabling the E2E Car-to-Cloud Connected Services which will open up myriad possibilities of software updates, unlocking new capabilities and continuous digital evolution of the vehicle for its lifetime.

To enable broader SDV and Connected services goal, Qualcomm Technologies has developed next generation SW development environment for Telematics Control Unit aptly called the Snapdragon Telematics Application Framework .

TelAF is an open source, modern, service oriented architecture based application development framework, providing vast benefits from the developer’s perspective.

Snapdragon Telematics Application Framework allows Tier 1s/OEMs to achieve time to market advantage by providing a unified development environment which is scalable, extensible, portable, end-to-end secure, built-in power management, application life cycle management, application deployment and orchestration, and cloud readiness.  Compatible with all present and future Snapdragon Auto Connectivity platforms, Snapdragon Telematics Application Framework allows developers to focus on their core expertise when creating Telematics applications. Open Source platform services and value added managed services are central to the application framework which allows developers to use telematics functionality across all platforms in the Snapdragon Digital Chassis, reducing costs and complexity when developing cloud-based applications and services. It is based on the Yocto Linux distribution with feature-rich set of build, debug and code generation tools and provides developers with common APIs for integrating technology features such as 5G, location services, data connectivity, networking, emergency eCalls, diagnostics (UDS/DoIP), power management, memory, containers, sandboxing, SOME/IP (service oriented middleware over IP), peripherals support (for example audio codecs, sensors) and security.
