OpenClaw has been pretty handy quite lately. I can text it from anywhere, on any device. It sends me a news briefing every morning, plans healthy walks including weather-appropriate clothing and is keeping me apprised of the progress of a stereo I ordered from Japan. It takes my chaotic thoughts, turns them into clean Markdown and emails them to relevant people. And it’s all running on a tiny $59 Arduino UNOQ board I stashed on a bookshelf. 

Back in 2024, our President & CEO Cristiano Amon said, “AI is the new UI.” And it’s finally happening. Rather than poking through Web pages or shuffling apps, I’m asking OpenClaw to do it for me and getting useful results. We’re now seeing the change Cristiano predicted, and it can be accessed and enabled through our every day devices.

 

What OpenClaw signals for the future of AI agents  

OpenClaw crystalized the shift from passive conversational assistants to active systems that comprehend, take action and adapt in real time. Big AI firms are now polishing the concept. I use Claude Cowork on my laptop with Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme to turn thoughts into slides — at lunch last week, my boss was actually suspicious about the leap in my PowerPoint skills.

But to be truly useful, AI agents must be available absolutely anywhere, aware of your context and distribute their intelligence across the devices that surround you. This marks a turning point in AI maturity. We are graduating from early-stage experimentation, where raw performance was the only metric that mattered, to commercial-grade products that require deep, system-level optimization across devices and agents.

The future of AI isn’t just faster AI; it's AI that is personal, proactive and always works for you. How does this translate into technical capabilities? Every device, from the smallest earbuds and smartphones to the largest data centers, must feed into an ‘ecosystem of you’ with extreme power efficiency, deep context awareness and ultra-low latency. This isn't a new challenge for us. Connected, high-performance computing across multiple devices at low power is what we do.

OpenClaw: Giving hands and eyes to AI

Think of OpenClaw like a 24/7 pair of eyes and hands for AI assistants. Most AI agents go to sleep the moment you close the app. Not OpenClaw. It’s always executing tasks across your apps and intelligently distributing steps across every device and account you give it access to — not just delivering answers in a chat box.

Speak to your smartwatch, OpenClaw executes the task on your AI PC or your Arduino board, and replies.  The agent can  perform simple ad-hoc tasks like “respond to this email for me”, to complex, multi-step workflows such as monitoring your socials, sending you a report and suggesting hot topics to build on.

And the best part? People are starting to figure out how to bring agentic actions into the physical world — they’ve built amazing things such as automating their smart home appliances like dimmable lights and air purifiers to sorting car parts, all triggered by a simple voice prompt. Multi-device AI experiences are the next phase of the agentic evolution.

 

Orchestration: under the hood of distributed intelligence

How does your agent stay alive, responsive and execute tasks successfully? Just like a conductor coordinates musicians, agentic orchestration coordinates agents’ behaviors: they remain aware, they monitor signals to start/stop a task, they are responsive and they take into consideration the resources at their disposal to do their job.

The orchestration layer is the cornerstone of AI agents that work. Without it, they wouldn’t be able to invoke tools, manage sub-agents, coordinate tasks and combine outputs for you. They would simply answer your questions. This all happens on your device or devices, and requires reliable hardware that can handle these kinds of workloads.

While running OpenClaw and the models it invokes fully locally across devices is possible, most setups today involve running the orchestration layer on your devices, with OpenClaw delegating the heavy thinking to a cloud-based model. The future of AI, we’ve been saying, is ‘hybrid’ — tasks running wherever is most efficient and appropriate, properly using the unique advantages of the cloud and of each individual device type you may have.
